Why this project mattered.

Kestrel Industrial faced rising energy costs and tightening environmental compliance at the same time. Leadership wanted energy and carbon planned together, rather than as separate exercises, so decisions about efficiency, procurement, and reporting reinforced one another instead of pulling in different directions.

The Challenge

Energy was managed plant by plant, while carbon and compliance reporting were handled centrally, and the two rarely met. The result was duplicated effort, missed savings, and reporting that was hard to defend under scrutiny.

1. Bring energy and carbon into one plan

Connect operational energy decisions to the carbon and compliance obligations they affect. Define shared metrics, owners, and review points, so planning improves both the cost base and the evidence base at the same time.

2. Our Approach

We created a combined energy and carbon plan that linked consumption, cost, and emissions to clear owners and review points. Compliance requirements were built in from the start, so the evidence needed for reporting was a by-product of good operational planning.

Siloed decisions

Energy and carbon were planned in isolation.

Missed savings

Efficiency opportunities went unnoticed between teams.

Fragile reporting

Compliance evidence was assembled reactively.

Duplicated effort

The same data was gathered more than once.

3. The Solution

Earthward delivered a combined energy and carbon plan spanning consumption, procurement, efficiency projects, and compliance evidence, each element tied to an owner, a metric, and a review point across the manufacturing base.

The Importance of Regular Review and Adjustments

Energy markets and environmental compliance both keep moving, so the plan cannot stand still. Kestrel now reviews it each cycle, updating priorities as costs, regulations, and technology change, which keeps both spending and reporting under control rather than reacting to each new requirement.
